GARDEN City residents are calling out for a passenger rail service from Toowoomba to Brisbane.
Earlier this year public transport advocate Robert Dow said the State Government should pursue the regular rail services after the Federal Government committed and extra $8.4 billion for Inland Rail.
Mr Dow said the Inland Rail would join the existing western line at Calvert. He suggested the western passenger line could run out through Ipswich, Rosewood and Calvert before joining the dual-gauge Inland Rail line to Gowrie Junction, north-west of Toowoomba.
The Chronicle asked readers their thoughts, and the post on Facebook had more than 2500 reactions in agreement.
Now Toowoomba man, Peter Achilles, has started a petition on change.org to bring the passenger train to Toowoomba.
“We need fast rail from Toowoomba to Brisbane so our children can commute to and from, so people with disabilities can travel to Brisbane to hospitals,” he said.
He also mentioned the Blue Mountains boom thanks to its passenger train from Katoomba to Sydney.
“Toowoomba is the Katoomba of Queensland, if you believe in this join before you miss the train and make the change,” he said.
Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio has also made a similar statement and said the rail line would benefit the region with increased tourism.

The petition has gained almost 700 signatures in 48 hours, with many people saying they would use the service regularly.
