NORTHBOUND lanes of the M1 are closed at Tweed Heads after a pedestrian was hit by a truck.

The 50-year-old man was pronounced dead after he was hit by a truck around 12.25pm near the Kirkwood Drive exit.

The male truck driver was assessed on site by NSW Ambulance paramedics and will undergo mandatory testing.

Motorists travelling to the Gold Coast from NSW this afternoon should expect delays.

Traffic is being diverted into Minjungbal Drive however this does not apply to B-double trucks, which should be parked at Chinderah.

In Brisbane, motorists have been warned to expect massive delays in Browns Plains after a vegetable oil leak on a major road.

Emergency services were called to the spill about 9.50am on Browns Plains Rd after the oil began leaking onto the road.

It remains unknown how the leak started.

About 80 per cent of the road has been covered with soil.

There are diversions in place, but police have urged motorists to avoid the area and to expect lengthy delays.
