A LONG line of drivers queued outside an Ipswich petrol station this morning to take advantage of cheap fuel.
Metro Petroleum at West Ipswich has been open for about a week and the low prices have already proven popular.
This morning there was a large queue as people patiently waited to fill up on unleaded for the bargain price of 107.9 cents a litre.
A block over, Puma Fuels at West Ipswich also has a good offer with unleaded just 112.6 cents a litre.
Ipswich drivers should consider themselves lucky given Brisbane fuel prices are rough by comparison.
The RACQ says Brisbane drivers are paying more than every other capital city at an average price of 127.8 cents per litre for unleaded in the state’s capital.
The figures were revealed in the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s latest report.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said all drivers should do their part to drive down prices by supporting cheap servos.
The ACCC is currently examining Brisbane’s petrol prices, taking into account margins and profits and the findings of this report can’t come soon enough, Ms Smith said.
“We already know profits at Brisbane service stations are 55 percent higher than the national average,” she said.
“We can’t afford to keep blindly filling up at any service station.
“We must support cheaper servos and force those retailers overcharging to drop their prices if they want our business,” she said.
Metro Petroleum took over the West Ipswich site after Freedom Fuels shut down in June.
