It’s a tricky time of life for many women – pregnancy brings with it hormones, frightening medical tests, and the fear of the unknown. And then there’s a baby, which is a whole other swag of emotions and challenges.
But what about men? We’ve all heard about post-natal and peri-natal depression, but did you it’s not only women who are affected?
Around one in 20 men experience depression during their partner’s pregnancy, and up to one in 10 new dads struggle with depression following the birth of their baby.
Israel Smith is one of those dads who suffered depression after the birth of his son seven years ago. He spoke with ABC’s Lyrella Cochrane.
