WINTER is rapidly approaching its end.
There has been a late surge in chilly temperatures to remind us that winter never gives up its hold easily.
Long-time residents say that the winters have eased up recently and Bureau of Meteorology statistics back that statement.
This has been one of Toowoomba’s warmest winters in decades.
So spring is about to spring on us.
That means all the fun of the Carnival of Flowers and The Chronicle Garden Competition.
Generally the weather is appropriately wonderful for both events.
But those with a history in Toowoomba can remember rainy Ergon, Wine, Food and Flower evenings and a couple of years ago the carnival dinner in Queens Park turned so cold that organisers had to provide a blanket for every diner.
That last blast of winter is always on the cards.
Hopefully this year the weather holds and tens of thousands get to enjoy our beautiful city though carnival time.
